What does the sign mean?

A motorway starts here.

Where it applies

  • As a rule only motor vehicles built for and allowed to travel at 40 km/h or more may use it, also with a trailer. Class I mopeds may not.
  • You may not turn round or reverse.
  • You may not stop or park, except at marked parking or rest areas.
  • The speed limit is 110 km/h unless something else applies. The Transport Administration can set 120 km/h, signs can set less, and some vehicles have a lower limit, such as a car with a trailer.

Exam trap

You may not stop on the hard shoulder to, for example, use your phone or read a map. If the car breaks down you must put out the warning triangle and have it moved as soon as possible.

Do not mix up with

Express road: it resembles a motorway but has its own sign.
