What does the sign mean?
This is a pedestrian crossing.
Where it applies
- At an uncontrolled crossing you must give way to people who have stepped out or are just about to.
- You may not stop or park on it or within ten metres before it.
- You must drive so you are not forced to stop on the crossing.
Exam trap
The duty also covers someone just about to step out. They need not be on the crossing yet.
Do not mix up with
Warning for pedestrian crossing: that is a triangle warning in advance, this sign marks the crossing itself.
