What does the sign mean?
You must give way to vehicles on the crossing road or route.
Where it applies
- Slow down in good time or stop, so it is clear you intend to give way.
- You may go on only if that causes no danger or obstruction.
- With a supplementary plate the sign can be advance notice of a give way or stop further on.
Exam trap
Giving way does not mean you must always stop. If the road is clear you may go on without stopping.
Do not mix up with
Stop: there you must stop, even if the road is clear.
