What does the sign mean?
The sign applies to vehicles whose total weight is above the value on the plate.
Where it applies
- Total weight is the vehicle's service weight plus the most people besides the driver and the most goods it is built to carry.
- Total weight belongs to the vehicle and does not change with the load.
- A vehicle with exactly the stated total weight is not covered, because the weight must exceed the value.
Exam trap
The plate is not a weight limit for everyone. Lighter vehicles are not covered, and under a sign that covers the lorry, an empty lorry with a high total weight is too.
Do not mix up with
Gross weight restriction: those signs concern the actual weight on the road, not the total weight.
