The first call is the most important — here's how to save the seconds that count.
The 112 operator needs the information in this order: 1. Where, nearest road number, direction, mile/km marker, clear landmarks 2. What, traffic accident? How many vehicles? People involved? 3. Injuries, unconscious? Bleeding? Trapped? 4. Hazards, fire? Leaking fuel? Dangerous goods? 5. Your name and number. Do not hang up until the operator says so
If GPS and location services are on, your position is sent automatically to SOS Alarm when you call 112, this technology is called AML (Advanced Mobile Location). You don't need to manually share your location; doing so only wastes time and can delay help.
Good call: 'Traffic accident on E4 southbound, about 5 km north of exit 128 Södertälje. Two cars, one rolled over. One driver unconscious, one is out and appears okay. No fire.' Bad call: 'Help! Crash!' [hangs up]
Call 112, not 90000 or 11414. 112 works even without a SIM card and across all carriers, even if your own subscription has no coverage, the phone can find another network.
