Hazard lights, defroster, parking brake, fog lights, and headlight modes — what each control does.
Activated by the red triangle button, all four indicators flash simultaneously. Use for: breakdown on the road, accident, queue ahead (to warn traffic behind). Do NOT use to park in a forbidden zone. It doesn't authorise stopping there.
Front: hot air directed at the windscreen. Rear: thin electric heating wires embedded in the glass (visible as horizontal lines). The rear defroster draws significant power, turn it off once the window is clear to reduce battery load, especially on short trips.
Driving with the parking brake, even partially, engaged overheats the brakes quickly. Can warp brake discs, destroy pads, and create fire risk. Some cars have an audible warning above a certain speed, listen for it.
Front: may be used in fog, heavy rain, or heavy snowfall that seriously limits visibility. Rear: MAY ONLY be used in very poor visibility (< 50 m). Rear fog lights dazzle drivers behind, turn them off as soon as visibility improves.
Low beam: aimed downward so oncoming traffic isn't blinded. Use in darkness and poor visibility. Many newer cars switch to low beam automatically even during the day. High beam: gives much longer range but blinds others badly. Dip to low beam in good time before meeting oncoming traffic or approaching a vehicle ahead. Judge the distance based on visibility, speed, and road conditions, if you blind someone, you dipped too late, regardless of the exact distance.
