What does the sign mean?
You may not drive with any wheel across the line.
Where it applies
- The line can be a solid centre line, lane line or edge line.
- With particular care you may cross the line if needed to pass an obstacle on the road, if the room in a junction would otherwise not be enough for the vehicle, to reach or leave a property or similar, or if a dashed line runs immediately to the right of the solid one in your direction of travel.
- A solid edge line may also be crossed by those who must use the shoulder under the law, such as cycles, mopeds and vehicles limited to 40 km/h.
Exam trap
The ban has exceptions. Four of them require particular care.
