The sign applies to vehicles whose total weight is above the value on the plate.
Where it applies
Total weight is the vehicle's service weight plus the most people besides the driver and the most goods it is built to carry.
Total weight belongs to the vehicle and does not change with the load.
A vehicle with exactly the stated total weight is not covered, because the weight must exceed the value.
Exam trap
The plate is not a weight limit for everyone. Lighter vehicles are not covered, and under a sign that covers the lorry, an empty lorry with a high total weight is too.
Do not mix up with
Gross weight restriction: those signs concern the actual weight on the road, not the total weight.
